In almost every immigration process there is a moment when a person stops understanding what is happening to their own life. An email from the immigration authority, a ruling that does not explain itself, a deadline no one clarified. That moment —the one of uncertainty— is the one I most want to walk through with you.
I am opening Humana Legal with a simple conviction: the law should work for people, not the other way around. After years working in public affairs and in the protection of vulnerable people, and now as an attorney with experience in immigration law, I want to use these tools for what has always mattered to me.
What this space is for
This will not be a blog of legal jargon. It will be a place to explain, in plain language, the questions we hear again and again:
- What types of residency exist and which one fits each situation.
- What to do —and what not to do— when facing a deportation or departure order.
- How family reunification works, step by step.
- What your rights are when an application is rejected or shelved.
The goal is that, when that moment of uncertainty arrives, there is at least one place to read something written with rigor and without fine print.
An honest disclaimer
Every case is different, and general information never replaces advice on your particular situation. What we publish here is meant to orient, not to resolve. When your case calls for it, let’s talk: the first conversation is always about understanding what is happening and what the next steps are.
Welcome.
